As I wake in the morning, the faint smell of smoke lingers in the sky. This can only mean one thing. It is either back burning or it is a bush fire.  I remember last year in Summer, the hottest & windiest day of the season to date, I received a frantic bashing down of the door in the morning from a neighbour  “There’s an alarming amount of smoke just down the road and heading our way” she said panicking. That caused an instant spike in my stress level because although my house, is on a hill I am in a fire prone area. I have a beautiful outlook, bush and water surrounding every part of the house, but have to admit, I haven't been so domesticated of late that the gardens are very overgrown and well there is always clearing to do. 

Lucky for me, some of our neighbours such as Mrs Nosy,  seems to be all hyper sensitive to the first sign of a potential bushfire. It turned out though, the cause of the fire was a burn-off from 4 or so days before-and it appeared to be a controlled & supervised burn-off. Although it made me think it is time to get off my butt and prepare for this summer, cause honestly the neighbour is lovely, but she is a worry wort that I can do without this season.

Summer in Australia can be magical, warm, and unbearably hot. What some people don't tell you is that in the summer Australians suffer from many blackouts across the land. Spring and summer storms can also cause blackouts that may last eight hours or more from downed power lines and blown transformers. The storms don't last long, but the power outage can be for quite some time.

As Australian's seem to get used to blackouts we find many ways to make the time enjoyable.      
Some of which includes, grabbing a lantern, or lighting candles, pulling out the ole deck of cards, or just relaxing outside and remembering how to talk again - away from the computers, away from the games that children can't seem to put down.

Bringing back the laughter and the fun is what needs to occur.

I have been told that in the United States and the rest of the northern hemisphere, the first day of the spring season started on the 20th March.  What I didn't know is that spring brings with it the start of the Tornado season.

Until yesterday, I believed that Tornado's were only found in the US, until turning on the television yesterday I was alarmed to hear that tragedy had occured in the form of tornadoes that had also hit Australia. Shocked by these events, it made me realise no matter where you live, we all seem to share a common ground.  We all have similar weather conditions, just at different times. Spring should herald the beauty, and warmth of the sun, being outdoors with your loved ones and sharing time together, not in fear of what could occur.
