#655 Do you want to know your future?...

Now that we no longer have the Mayan calendar or its expiration to worry about, how are you going to know what predictions to follow now? What if the best predictor of your future is actually YOU? Would you really want to know the future? To know I believe comes with a price...

Here are 3 reasons why we should never know the future.

1.   Not knowing takes the pressure off - When we think we should know, we get stressed out when we don’t know things. But when we see that not knowing is our natural state, we can actually open into that, into a state of curious detachment, of childlike wonder. What’s going to happen next? Will it be a pleasant surprise, a learning opportunity, or both? We can see that, in a sense, we can’t know anything. We’ve never known anything. So when the time comes to make a decision, we just give it our best shot. And we know that we can always adjust if we need to.

2.   Not knowing fosters learning - Would you still be in your current job? Would you have stayed if you had known the outcome?  I think we can all point to bad experiences that we would not have chosen—a difficult job, the death of someone close to us, struggling with a health issue... yet most of our growth comes from pain. I’ve seen paraplegics and cancer victims smile as they relate the growth that has come from their condition, insisting they wouldn’t have things any other way. Often we only recognize in retrospect how valuable an experience has been.

3.   Not knowing brings the joy of surprise - Of course we don’t want to know when bad stuff is going to happen. But what about the surprise call from a friend? What about the windfall you didn’t know was coming? What about the laughter of a child or yet the birth of your child, nieces, nephew. A lot of the joy in life comes from surprises, and knowing exactly what’s coming would take all of that away…

Let’s face it, not knowing is the natural state of things. When we want to know things that we can’t know (like the future, or the right course of action), all we create is frustration for ourselves. Just being yourself and taking it day by day is the best path to take.

#527 Text: - They have them in stock

Ugh, there are very few times when I let myself get frustrated by large corporations (I’ve resigned to the fact that they may just not put as much emphasis on certain things as smaller companies do -ie Customer Service) but stores frustrate me. To explain, I like to brouse around shops and to put it plainly if I see something that I like I take a pic of it with my phone which includes price as well.
I may take a few weeks to go get it but this is my frustration.

So, here’s the story.  I wanted to buy a blanket from this store.  Not just any blanket… a blanket that has a beautiful weave and seems to be one of a kind. So I took the photo and price and came back in a fortnight and they said they didn't have any left, ok that was my fault, however was told it was available online.  So, I log on to the website to check stock and hopefully, order online to have it shipped to my house.  Easy enough right?  Yay!  Found the blanket and now, I’ve added it to my cart.
Woot… Now, to check out and get my blanket shipped to me. But wait.  What’s that little icon with the cross through it. Ohhh, I can’t actually buy it online.  Darn. Stupid, why would the advice be correct...

So, I pick up the phone and call the store and get an operator.

Me:  “Hi, I’m sitting and looking at a product that I want but it’s at a location, in stock, and I live in (blank)  How can I get that product?”
Operator:  “You can’t”
Huh.  I can’t get a product that I clearly see on the website.  Even though that took me back a bit, I press on.
Me: “Oh.  Well, can I get it transferred between stores?”
Operator:  “No.”
Me:  “Umm… Okay, why does it allow you to add it to a shopping cart for online shopping?”
Operator:  “Well, some people make a list, print it out and bring it into the store.”
Me:  “No, they don’t really… Do they?”
Operator:  “I don’t know.  You can buy some products online but not all of them.”
Me:  “Where do the products come from?”
Operator:  “A central warehouse.”
Me:  “Okay, how can I get that central warehouse to send a blanket to me?”
Operator:  “They can’t.”
Me:  “Why?”
Operator:  “Because they don’t carry that item.”
Me:  “Okay, so why can’t I buy it online again?”
Operator:  “Because we don’t take credit cards over the phone or Internet.”
Me:  “But you just said some items can be purchased online and hence the reason the website says Buy Online, and it allows me to add to my cart.”
Operator:  “Only some items can be bought online.”

At this point, I’m confused.  Like… really, really confused.

Me to Operator: So to recap, even though the product says it is available, you won't transfer it from one store to another store, I can't purchase via credit card? I need to travel the distance to go get the blanket otherwise I miss out... Can you confirm that the blanket is available at this store.
Operator:  “No you will need to call the store direct.”

Thinks to myself it is my fault for not purchasing it earlier, but customer service is not as good as it used to be..do you think?

#504 "Gossip" with Eyelure, C'est La Vie, and Essenz

I saw Finding Nemo and am convinced that the seagulls say "Mine!" But my friend reckons they say "Mate!" After all, they are Australian seagulls. I'm Australian, and I can sort of (sort of!) see how you could think they're saying "Mate!" because if you exaggerate the Aussie accent and squawk like a seagull, you could be mistaken to think they're saying "Mate!"

Seagulls always squabble over food, hence me believing that they are saying "Mine!" Like they're putting dibs on the food, be it Nemo's dad and Dory, or the crab that Dory holds out of the water, or those damn chips that Alles Klaar was talking about on Flickr - for eg: -
https://www.flickr.com/photos/mischamoyet/20764162202/in/dateposted-public/ ..am hearing you Alles they are one greedy sod's :D.

As soon as food pops up, the most observant one goes "Mine!" but of course then all the others join in. Saying "Mate!" isn't funny, unless it's taking a cheap shot at Aussies, which I doubt Pixar would do. Whereas having brainless birds saying "Mine!" while squabbling over food makes perfect sense. Whatever they are honestly saying, I have no doubt they are the biggest gossipers on the planet. When it comes to gossip and secondlife that is a different story.

I have always been myself, one that totally avoids gossip to the point I lost a friend once for finding out that in fact they were not male but female. It never bothered me, but it did in fact make the relationship a little strained as I was curious why they wanted people to not know the truth and they were unfortunately telling a lie and hurting others in making people believe of their other identity. Whatever the reason I liked them as they were, who they were, I loved that person actually and we were good friends. Because I had found out the truth, they pushed me away, but realise that by asking them the truth, in fact I was gossiping and am ashamed for doing that and have learnt my lesson.

So what is your opinion do gulls say Mate or Mine?

#457 This dry land has some sunshine with GizzA Creations

Feeling very patriotic about my country Australia, I have to write about some places that have received rain for the first time in over seven years. Friends called me a few days ago excited that the rains had arrived. Could you imagine seven years without rain!!?  Pretty hard to imagine. Their young children were terrified at what was coming down and hitting them on the face. To us it is common, every so many days it hits our roofs, our cars, our face as we walk. It is wet and annoying but needed. It is known as rain water. The children were so terrified, they screamed all the way to their parents thinking that the heavens were indeed falling on them. I know that is hard to believe but there are places in Australia that have not seen rain for some time.

In 2010, South East of Australia was in the grip of “the big dry” or what was called the “millennium drought” - billed as the worst drought since European settlement. Dams across the Murray-Darling Basin were down to only 25% of capacity. Then the floods came, followed by yet more floods. In some areas the dams are now almost 100% full. The first time in 8 years. Several thousands of gigalitres have been released. Government has spent billions of dollars trying to prepare Australia for the next dry, but the complexity of droughts means we have little hope of being ready. If you can imagine, Entire floodplain forests died along the rivers of the Murray-Darling Basin; for many of them, the drought was just the final straw.  The dry not only affects farmers but our livestock, our wildlife and from the recent droughts, some species of animals have disappeared. Whilst Australia they say is a great place to live, it also has it underlying problems and that is the millennium droughts that affect us.

#450 Let's Runaway with LpD, Apt B, Essenz, Monso and Vibe

I seriously feel like running away.  I love my house but not when it comes to renovation times I am seriously not happy.
I feel so lucky that after saving and saving, I can now get some much needed renovations done to the home. Apart from a new kitchen coming, new walls, new floor boards throughout and then a fresh coat of paint in every room. For now though, I cringe, my house is truly a mess.

I am someone that even a person with a white glove can't find dust. I am very house proud. Don't though ask me about my gardens I truly don't have a green thumb. I am generally a very tidy person and clean, except upon the fridge. I always forget that damn fridge on top being so short.
No matter how much I try to maintain some semblance of normancy whilst the renovations are being done. I wanted a debatably-effective shield against the destruction and mess of old house plaster.
I was told to just get started and clean later, put down plastic if you want.   Maybe it WAS a waste of time to try to keep one half of a room marginally “cleaner” than the other.  Maybe it was “fine” to just shut the door and let the entire room descend through all nine rings of Dante’s inferno. But? if you need to build a debatably-effective shield - plastic, then don't wait for it to be done you'd better off doing it yourself than debating it.

So my mess continues. Everywhere I walk there is dust, concrete, saw dust, footprints, paintbrushes, everywhere!! and did I say FOOTPRINTS (ugggh). Every morning I am constantly sneezing and I won't even go to the fact that I found saw dust on my toothbrush.. YUK.  Will this never-ending mess ever stop. Only when we get to the last part and that is my floor boards polished where I have been told I need to leave the house for 2-3 days for the smell to go. Sigh. At least at the end I will have a better house.

Wouldn't it be far easier if I could just rez a new house like in SL. Wishing hard this could happen.

Coming across this beautiful setting at Neva River, adding a few bits and pieces, I thought of creating this picture today of a house renovation in progress - or church in this case.
