#593 We need love but all we want is danger...

We need love but all we want is danger, that’s what Taylor Swift sings out to us all.

Whether it is men wanting this in women, or women wanting this in men or equal sexes wanting this in each other, for the benefit of this post, we all seem to want the bad ‘guy’. Why is that the case?

Most women claim to want the guy who is sensitive, emotionally fluent and intimate. Yet, when it comes down to it, women consistently chase after the “bad boy,” the guy who is narcissistic, self-absorbed and avoids all forms of intimacy as if they were infectious diseases. While we're constantly on the lookout for that super sweet, caring guy who will make a great companion, we're actually attracted to the guy who ignites passion within us that lights the fire, and is fiery all the way. Nice guys are just boring…

What it all comes down to is biology. We are literally, scientifically geared to the bad guy. While women claim to want “the nice guy,” we're genetically hard-wired to want to procreate with the alpha male because he has stronger sperm. There’s just something so satisfying about taking the jerk home from the bar who’s spent most of the night intellectually challenging you in a heated verbal debate and all you want to do is strangle him with his ego, but at the same time want to jump his bones. :D.
This nice guy stereotype contends that women often claim they want a nice guy, a man who is sweet, kind and sensitive, and yet, when it comes down to it, she rejects this man for one with “other salient characteristics” like a hot body or an ultra-strong personality.

So when it comes to sex, women are more inclined toward the fiery, passionate qualities they attribute to the “bad boy” or the alpha male, but when it comes to dating and serious relationships, women claim to want a “nice guy.” It's like we just can't help ourselves. We want those arrogant guys who make us somehow feel alive.  We love the danger. We know they're wrong for us, they'll never treat us the way we think we deserve to be treated, and instead of running for the hills, we jump on for the ride. Damn you, biology! No woman wants to be with a man who doesn't know how to assert himself. Whether we want to admit it or not, we want excitement in our relationships. We want a powerful, aggressive man. This can be a difficult thing to admit as a strong, independent female, but it is, nonetheless, true. Women don't want to be with someone who is all calm seas and clear skies; we crave constant challenges in everything we do. When it comes to love, we choose the guy who satisfies that desire. The nice guy may seem great on paper, but he turns out bland in real life. We want a project. Women like to “fix men.” A nice guy doesn’t need any taming. He’s already solid on the home front. He isn’t intense or severe.  When a woman is faced with a “bad boy,” she automatically finds the challenge to tame him alluring. His vanity is all at once angering and intoxicating. If she can bring him down to earth, it would be the ultimate accomplishment.

#592 For there is nothing lost that may be found if sought...

We have all heard this story in one fashion or another.  For you guys you can tune out if you wish this time. In the beginning, she falls in love with someone who seems to be the end-all. He sweeps her off of her feet; he turns her world upside down and seems like the perfect man. He nearly is, but not quite. He breaks her heart, shatters it into a million pieces. She is overcome with distraught; she can barely breathe when she thinks of all that she gave and all he gave back. She then thinks her life will never go on, how can she live any longer and drowns in her sorrow.

Just when you think that she cannot cope, she gasps for air, breaths again, and the heart begins to heal. Her life goes on.  I think we have all experienced this in some type of version first hand and truly believe that time itself heals all wounds. You just have to have faith and a little hope.

Towards the end of these mushy love stories, the real prince charming comes along her path and they live happily ever after.  The person may not necessarily be someone who she would have pictured herself with earlier but they make her feel special and loved, he makes her feel so special and takes care of her and loves her completely. It's just perfect. Okay okay, cheezy, I know.

As it is written – “For there is nothing lost that may be found if sought”. Lost being the one that left and found is the new person that comes along and lifts you off your feet.  Love is a crazy thing, you never know what the future holds. Reading stories like this can give you hope that yes, even though they are fiction, true love can exist. It is real and it is possible to find, it can be just around the corner.. (found if sought).

#591 I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones....

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones (from Albert Einstein).

Einstein stated: “I have always condemned the use of the atomic bomb against Japan.” Five months before his November 1954 death, he explained “one great mistake in my life…when I signed the letter to President Roosevelt recommending that atom bombs be made…" Separately he said: "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." Some of his quotes included saying “Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.” “It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder, using force always attracts men of low morality.”  “The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.”

Whilst we generally can’t stop a world war, our inaction however, often allows evil to flourish. Taking action can be dangerous as well, time consuming, tedious, and a real pain in the neck, but it is the thing that is most effective at minimizing the danger and evil in the world. So why is action important?   Action is what gets things done. Inaction means nothing gets done. Action, in the case of this quote, is about doing things to thwart, retard or deter the evil acts of others. The actions necessary to thwart evil acts is probably the most dangerous and the rarest. Such as breaking up a fight, scaring off a robber (or worse), these are actions of extreme bravery. It is an action the evil-doer is not expecting, as it is so rarely done. For example: - How many of you know of someone that is being abused by their partner, ex, bashed even and have done nothing.

The actions necessary to retard or deter evil acts are what most of us can do most easily, and with little to no risk. These might include joining a neighbourhood watch group, keeping your neighbourhood clean, well-lit, and unappealing to thieves, or in the case of the abuse reporting the absue so the person can get help. You can always remain anonymous. There are lots of things one can do to help in the eternal fight against evil, and to make the world less dangerous. Unfortunately evil is everywhere, and the wolf is always at the door.

What are you willing to do to make your part of the world less dangerous, and to help diminish the evil in your back yard? It won’t be easy, but I believe it will be worth the effort.

#589 I look for answers...If I don't laugh and smile there is fear of howling like a baby.

These last few weeks I've been dealing with some pretty intense fears. I'm not afraid to admit that I'm only human and fear rears it’s ugly head in my life too. Whilst every post I try and be positive for you all, today my fear has taken hold and I wanted to share.

Way back I mentioned that my mother was suffering from severe dementia and well she's a stubborn woman if I must say and wasn't meant to last past Christmas. Two Christmas later, it happens again and the call goes out to the family that her body is shutting down. Again now we are in April and she fighting with all her life but still whenever we make plans (those plans), she fights with all her strength...

Whilst my mother is available to see not like some of my friends who have lost their loved ones, I look at my mother who is now blind, tell her that I love her, hold her hand, wipe her face, kiss her head, and tell her I am always by her side. My mother you see is my heart. I share stories and even though she nods, I am not sure she understands who I am and what I am saying to her. Mum did everything for me and did it well. I never looked for anything, I had the best upbringing, and without her love I wouldn't be the same as I am now. In saying that my mother she can't talk, she can't feed herself, she can't wash herself, she has no independence and gives the nurses hell. I guess I would do the same.

My fear apart from losing her.. I now have another shock of fear and that is my father now has been diagnosed with dementia, and his dementia is progressing quite rapidly. My father is in the same position my mother was in a few years back. To explain my father is my rock. I have accepted my mother's dementia and whilst the tears flow every time I see her, I am in complete shock that the doctors – specialists now state my father has moderate dementia as well and will need to go to a home now. I honestly can't cope.

Well, I've noticed a few things about fear over the last few weeks. The first thing is our reluctance to feel it. There is so MUCH god-damn resistance and dogma around fear. First up, it’s pretty much viewed as a sign of weakness if you admit to anyone that you’re scared or experiencing fear. I never call out for help myself, and admit that I broke down last week at work when i heard the news from the doctors.

Yet we ALL feel it. No one wants to admit it, so we bury it away and deny it’s own very existence. The problem with that is – the more you hide it, the stronger it gets. Fear for me is my life changing a direction I can't control. My father being the hero in my life, my heart wants to explode as I hear him stumble for words and memory loss quite significant, repeating his stories over and over again. When all I want to do is scream, shake him and tell him to wake up. I went through these emotions with my mother and eventually accepted it. I know I can't do any of the above to Dad, so I hold back the tears when I see him, only to howl like a baby that I now have two parents that need care and whilst my mother does not know who I am and hasn't for quite some time, my fear takes hold will I ever be able to accept my father not recognizing me in a few months.. My fear in this case is shock. Denial that life can be this mean. Understanding to overcome this fear I have to be strong, but will I be able to cope with the change that is most definitely coming....

#585 We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.....

Finding your adventure can mean the end of an era and looking towards the possibilities of the future. When we celebrate the New Year this is in fact what we are thinking. However, to look at possibilities for the future, doesn’t have to start at the end of one year and beginning of another. Your adventure can start anytime. Seeking adventure is also about nurturing what Mother Nature provides, It’s about hope, letting your imagination run wild, It’s about innovation and the miracle of science, It’s about blooming where we are planted, and the simple adventures in our own backyards. It is also about remembering to have fun in the moment, and the inevitable passing of the baton from one generation to the next.

While many of us focus on the destination, isn’t the bliss really about the adventure of getting there? For me, There’s an introspection I am exploring. It’s about fearlessly following my path and journey, wherever it takes me. It’s about treasuring life’s journey, today, It’s about growing through adversity, not overcoming it or pushing past it. It’s having fun along the journey and not wanting everything straight away – getting to the destination slowly.

Even life throws us curve balls many times, and there are horrible things happening in the world. We have to look past this, and remember that every sunrise and sunset is a miracle. Our world is full of miracles every day if only we would open our eyes to see them. Every child's laugh, every hug received, these things that most of us don't observe are, in fact, the most wonderful and important moments of our day adventures.

So, enjoy your life, live it happily and fully, because our world is the best place to live it in !

#583 A Forgotten Time...

On the 25th of this month in Australia, we remember those who fought at Anzac Day.

Anzac Day commemorates those Australian and New Zealanders who fell 102 years ago at a muddy beach in a cove at Gallipoli, described as ''a small constrained area surrounded by the sea and steep terrain''. 100 years is not that long ago, if you think about it. More than 620 Australians died on the first day of this protracted campaign against the Turks. In a period of five months, by December, more than 8000 Australians were killed. That is history: history preserved and honored. The Anzacs who remained - the ones who marched every April 25 until age wearied and ultimately claimed them - have also long gone, but their spirit, their hardship,  and the thousands and thousands of other people from different countries that gave up their lives in wars continues to grow stronger in the public consciousness with each passing year.

I was asked by a family member the other day, if the 'Wars' didn't happen, what would the world be like now? It made me think, would we be in the dark ages again, economies combined, or having to start all over again.

Here are some of my thoughts on what it would be like if the wars never happened…

There would have been continuous numerous smaller wars in Europe, and in Australia even today. - Both World wars are what it took to convince Europe that its centuries of warfare really were unsustainable. Without them, Europe would have colonized The Levant, Palestine and portions of Asia Minor when the Ottoman Empire collapsed - There was no way even without WWI that the Ottomans would have ruled their empire after 1920 or so. Southern Europe would have likely been either colonized by Northern Europe or fell under its influence - This can be seen by Churchill’s request that Greece fall under British influence after WWII.

The following nations I believe would not exist - Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Bulgaria, any of various states of the former Yugoslavia, the former Czechoslovakia, Israel, Lebanon, Syria. Libya, Cyprus, the majority of the African states, the majority of nations in Asia, particularly South Asia and Australia would not be the same as it is today.

I believe that many of today’s inventions would have been postponed 10-15 years or simply never invented This exhaustive list includes: radar, jet aircraft, modern rockets, telemetry, home computers, satellites, the integrated circuit, lasers and, of course, nuclear weapons, even so much as the Internet and mobile phone that we cherish today, may not exist. Even so much as the clothes and food we love, the diverse range of food available from other countries, our clothing imports, love of fashion would all be different.

It is all about, ‘Lest we Forget’. Without those loved ones, we would not be where we are now. My reason for explaining the above, is don’t be so selfish to forget,  Without your family, loved ones, friends and partners, their hardship, has changed our lives forever, and without their courage and sacrifice our life would not be the same.
