#689 Hold...


I thought death was a natural process until a relative of mine lost her newborn baby.  

I have never known the raw hurt of a mother losing her baby, and how sudden the laughter of the baby kicking, the foot exploring territory pushing the mother's stomach to new reaching heights, the excitement of buying newborn clothes, shopping for prams, and the painting of the spare bedroom all coming to a grinding holt as I was awakened by the terrifying reality, that the life that was all planned for this little one - my niece.. has decided to head down a different path. 

 Sitting with my sister, hands clenched together, grief tearing our souls, we waited, moments seemed like hours, to hold the little one and say our goodbyes. 

They say having a baby is a miracle and when you look at the tiny body of 32 weeks, the finger nails so thin, the body and skin so translucent and pure, the beauty of the child that could have been, all you can think of is WHY? 

You want to hold those precious moments forever and not let go. Life. We take it for granted, yet some want to take the easy path and let it all go. Life is a precious journey. For some, they don't even get the chance.

#685 "Let me just stop fighting..I'm not that strong"..


I was raised an optimist. Believe in people, hard work pays off, things will get better…As a slightly nerdy and completely gawky teen, life sucked. classmate cruelty was an unavoidable part of life. 
Those years were painful. It was mind-boggling how mean, how pessimistic, people could be... 
My mother, a textbook optimist, trotted out the usual lines: 
“It’s not you; it’s them.” 
“They’re just jealous.”
“It’ll get better. Just wait.”..
I hid behind alcohol and drugs to numb the pain of feeling... I'm not that strong after-all..
I wanted it to all go away..
Right then, right there, I had a choice to make: Let life lead me, or lead my life.
Reread that last line…
That’s the reason we need to work our tails off to be, and to raise, optimists:
If my parents had been pessimists and expected the worst, I wouldn’t be here today. If my parents had been pessimists, they would have given up on me; in turn, I would have given up on myself. As optimists, they had faith that I would learn, grow, and recover.
I wanted her to be a fighter, to always look for the best in others, to fall down and get back up again—and again, and again.
It’s a struggle to stay positive, and pessimism desperately wants to be BFFs. My negative alter-ego is always sitting on my shoulder, whispering in my ear, “Isn’t life unfair?”
The thing is, life can seem unfair. But.. life got so much easier, and happier, when I learned how to overcome negative thoughts.
Gently, but firmly, tell your partner/mother/best friend/colleague that you can’t participate in their pity party. You know the ones that are always complaining about something in their life. Empathy and compassion are important, but learn how to deal with difficult people... They are bringing you down. Definitely help them, but help them in a positive way. Living bitter-free is a skill... and a hard skill to learn.
Acknowledge and explore feelings of negativity, but don’t dwell on them. 
Turn them around, and set them free...They will thank you one day.

#665 Today I don't feel like doing anything...


As the song goes, "Today I don't feel like doing anything"... Nothing at all..

So when did I start to take life so seriously?
 Sometimes, I just want to scream when I realize how wrapped up I can get in the “importance” of my day-to-day. This is an urgent reminder that I am in “serious” need of some laughter and good old fashioned play time. In these times, I turn to my inner child for help. We’ve all got one. They remind us how to be free, spontaneous, imaginative and most importantly, they help us to reconnect with our personal truths.
Here are 5 fun ways to get in touch with your inner child and help make them a part of your life:

1. Express yourself. Take out a piece of blank paper and draw. Draw whatever comes to mind. Even better Get your hands on a colouring book, stat! (Bonus points for using crayons.)

2. Play! Play! Play!  If you are lucky enough to have sentimental parents, you may have an attic or basement filled with your old toys. Not a chance? No problem. Hit a local second hand store in your area and look for old toys you used to play with. Bring them home and play! Have a drunken friend’s night and bring out Monopoly for some laughter.

3. Kick back and enjoy some me time: - Watch old children's shows that you used to watch as a kid. Those memories will come flooding back and you'll be feeling light hearted in no time. Some classic shows are now available on Netflix.

4. Sing - As a kid, I can remember belting out songs at the top of my lungs. I didn't care who heard me and I didn't care if I was any good. One of my favourite activities to do when i find myself too serious is to sing as badly as a I can. Turn up the volume of something that makes you smile and sing.. :).

5. Laugh - Find something that makes you laugh and do it! it's impossible to think about anything serious or stressful when you are crying and gagging with laughter. Invite some friends over, who cares if the house is messy. They are coming to see you and have some laughs not to admire the mess.

#615 The only adventure you regret is the one you didn’t take...


Mark Twain once said “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.”
We hear people lament their lost loves, lost health and lost opportunities all the time.  When we’re young, we feel we have all the time in the world to make the right choices, go after our goals and find our true purpose in life. By the time we become old; we will have accomplished some of those aims and missed out on others. That’s normal, because life is finite. And of course, what’s important to us at age 26 is totally different to what matters at 56.
Each life stage brings new challenges, new triumphs and new disappointments. Some of us seem to accumulate a formidable load of regrets by our 30s, while others manage to reach their last years of life and say “I wouldn’t have done anything differently – that was a full life and I’m satisfied.”
We’re all different in our expectations of ourselves and the world we live in. At the end of life, regret is useless – it’s a negative emotion that accomplishes nothing. But when we’re younger, regret has some use: it can be a prod that pushes us to live life as we wish, not as we must.
Some of us regret that we didn’t live life the way we want too, we didn’t travel abroad more often, we wish we didn’t work so hard, etc etc.
We all have some small regrets even at the age of 30 or 40. Perhaps the biggest mistake we all make is saying “I’ll start tomorrow”. The time to start making the right choices for your life isn’t tomorrow – it’s right now, because tomorrow is never guaranteed.

#546 The whites of the water are but hidden flowers..






When I was younger I used to say to my parents, look at those whites in the water.
My parents jokingly used to say, they aren’t whites but Seahorses jumping around for the Lady of the Sea who is dropping flowers into the ocean. Never questioning it, I also used to believe that the ocean was always blue and that one day I would meet the lady of the ocean.
Believe me after all these many years, no matter how many times I swim in the ocean; there is no lady of the sea but damn sharks instead!!


A common misconception that I had about the ocean being blue is believed by many of us, that the reason for the blueness was due to the reflections from the sky on its surface. This is not true.
The real reason the ocean is blue is because water, pure water, is blue. According to its frequency spectra, water is a very light shade of turquoise blue. You need a huge amount of it to really see its color. It’s like a teaspoon of oil, it looks transparent on a white spoon, but in the bottle looks yellowish.  If the ocean owed its color to the sky, it would be a different shade of blue and it would be white on cloudy days. You can see clouds reflected in the surface on the sea, but they don’t completely change its color.  Some constituents of sea water can influence the shade of blue you see in the ocean. This is why it can look greener or bluer in different areas.


However, the ‘lady of the sea keeps dropping those flowers’ into the ocean and those whites that you see, just means it is a rough current, and that it is getting or about to be windy!! J
