#519 Let's go for a walk in the country

I love you isn’t always expressed in those exact words, but the message is just as sweet to my ears. When my 11-year-old niece says “Can we go for a walk” I pause, smile and promptly put on my sneakers. I savour several things about that phrase: the signal to slow down, the invitation to spend quality time with my niece and her voiced desire to be outdoors.

I actively encourage outdoor play, and whilst she is running around and I am struggling to keep up, it keeps me fitter, and spending regular time exploring nearby green spaces (including the backyard!).  While the benefits for my niece and myself are well documented, I’ve become increasingly aware of the benefits outdoor time brings to me as well.

I savour the fact that she is not tethered to electronic devices as yet. Am sure it will come.  It’s how much of business—and even schoolwork—gets done these days by being indoors and not outdoors. By being focused on computers, smartphones and the like can steal opportunities to bond with friends and family—to make lasting memories—when we fail to tune out email streams when the workday is done and to afford ourselves the gift of disconnecting.

That’s why I consider walk invitations and enthusiastic wildlife observations (“I see a butterfly!”) such loving expressions from my niece that brings such a wonder back to me and to feel like a child again sharing the outside world to her.

Just the sheer joy on her face as we lift up a rock together by the water and she screams with delight at seeing a crab run away and scurry under another rock as she grabs that rock and try's to find her 'Mr Crab' and non stop talks about it all the way home as she puts up a shell to her ear hearing the wind in the shell <3

#472 Where the Mountains meet the sea we will explore with Harmony with Zerkalo, Ariskea, and Culprit

I’ve always considered December the 1st in Australia as the unofficial kick-off to fabulous summer barbeques. Now that my mind is already set on lazy weekends, mountainside picnics, and warm weathered gatherings, it’s time to pile on some serious backyard fashion, and some delicious wine to lap up before we head off to explore the area to burn off some of those bbq calories.

When it comes to everyone’s favorite backyard barbeque, I always try to follow these guidelines: comfort, and style. The goal is to spend more time making memories and less time fussing with an overly complicated outfit. We all have enough fussing when you are trying to get your meals just right, and watch over the person who is cooking the meat, that it doesn't burn.

Your barbeque best should always reflect the latest summer trends, casual and simple I say, while still offering enough ease to participate in outdoor activities such as exploring a new camp site, walking the beach or fun in the sun. Opt for minimal makeup, simple hairstyles like a ponytail or side braid, and never ever forget the all-important must-have: sunglasses. :)

Given that it is winter time here at the moment in Australia, I crave for the day I can have the summer bbq, there is nothing more special than soaking up the sun with a glass of wine in your hand and kicking back feeling the warmth of the UV rays.. as I usually reach for the sunscreen as I burn.

Bringing to you some fabulous items from one designer that seems to know what entails an awesome Bbq and that is Zerkalo. Zerkalo have released at Fameshed the lovely Summer Day arrangement.

#351 As the Sun goes behind the cloud time to call for dinner with Cheeky Pea, Apple Fall and Culprit

Some of the top bloggers in SL seem to photograph an exterior or interior scene with amazing talent. I have found, that you have to love to design. Like a blank page or canvas, an empty room can be either an opportunity or a challenge. With so many ways to fill it, how do you know where to start? Some basic rules apply for furniture arrangement which helps you figure out where to put things. In saying that, SL has no boundaries. These guidelines wont turn you into an interior or exterior designer overnight, but they will steer you in the right direction and help you achieve some good results. Finding some amazing pieces from Cheeky Pea from Uber, and some items from Apple Fall and Culprit. These are but a few amazing artists that are available in SL.

1. Consider how the room - area is used and how many people will use it? What scene are you trying to create? That will dictate the type of furnishings you'll need and the amount of seating required.
2. Identify the room’s focal point — a fireplace, view, television etc.— and orient the furniture accordingly.
3. Place the largest pieces of furniture first, such as the sofa  or the bed.  In most cases this piece should face the room’s focal point.
4. Symmetrical arrangements work best for formal rooms. Asymmetrical arrangements make a room feel more casual.
5. Vary the size of furniture pieces throughout the room, so your eyes move up and down as you scan the space. Balance a large or tall item by placing another piece of similar height across the room from it (or use art to replicate the scale). Avoid putting two tall pieces next to each other.
