#1007 Restrictions....


Sydneysiders will have to embrace the New Year's Eve fireworks as a TV-only event with our premier shutting down public access to the harbour foreshore after the state recorded new COVID-19 cases.


For the first time in as far as I can remember, this new year will be different for many.


No travelling to the city to watch the amazing fireworks and camping by the water for the best spot.


No international tourists travelling the many thousands of kilometres just to see our amazing fireworks across Sydney Harbour.

#802 Piano-keys-are-black-and-white-but-they-sound-like-a-million-colours-in-your-mind....


In the world of musical instruments, the piano I believe is king. No instrument (with maybe the exception of the human voice) has had more impact on western music than the piano.  

Invented early in the 18th century, the piano eventually worked its way into nearly every household by the late nineteenth to the early twentieth century. Before the radio, the piano was the central entertainment piece of nearly every house in the developed world. The same reasons people love the piano today are the same reasons people love it today. Here are my three reasons: 

1)  Fun – Playing the piano is a true joy. In an era not dominated by electronics and gadgets that provide instant (yet superficial) gratification, the act of playing the piano was a very common pastime. Set a child in front of the ivories, and that child will sit and play uninterrupted for as long as the adults in the room can stand it..  Obviously, some of us enjoy sound more than others, but a love of music is virtually universal.  

2) Sound – The sound created by the piano is unlike anything else on the planet. Capable of sounding fleeting and effervescent one instant, and gritty and powerful the next, few other instruments have anything close to the range of the piano – both tonally and dynamically.  

3) Looks – Pianos are elegant. Pianos are classy, and automatically raise the status of just about any room they sit in. The shiny, black silhouette of a concert grand piano is about as iconic as it gets. Some of the cases are incredibly ornate, but across the board, nearly every piano produced is at least intended to be aesthetically pleasing. 

We all need time to invest in playing or learning a musical instrument. In my opinion, the joy from producing beautiful harmonies and melodies is one of the best things on earth.

#730 When all you want is home and they think that home is right here..


Whether it's the Starbucks barista spelling your name right, working from home in your Wonder Woman pajamas or the smell of freshly cut grass, we all have our "little things" that make our day. These little things are the ones that greet us by the door, or the one that blinks as it purrs staring at you from its fav spot.  Those dogs and/or cats: They mend our broken hearts, brighten our moods and remind us to stop working so hard. They can also make great travel companions.

They’re expensive and messy and they hog the bed. Yet if you’re among the millions of pet owners across the country, you just can’t imagine life without your beloved dog, cat or other animal companion. Why are we so hell-bent on making these critters part of the family? Probably because of the incredible health and happiness benefits they offer..Here are four reasons why you should have a pet.

1) They make us more active - Pet ownership is linked to a reduction in cardiovascular disease risk factors, such as lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels and a lower likelihood of obesity. 

2) They help us develop empathy - kids who have pets become more nurturing, giving adults — perhaps because they learn from a young age that all living creatures need comfort and feel pain. But even people who bring home their first pet as an adult tend to develop a stronger sense of empathy, thanks to their furry or feathered buddy. “Taking care of an animal reminds you that all humans and animals have needs that may eclipse your own, and you’re able to see things from others’ point of view. 

3) They give us a self-esteem kick - Maybe it’s because they make us feel needed — after all, someone has to fill up that food bowl and stop by the dog run every morning! Or perhaps it has to do with the unconditional love they shower us with, or the fact that they’re completely nonjudgmental about our lifestyles. 

4) Petting them brightens our mood - it’s soothing for pets to be stroked and touched by us, but we get a huge physiological payback too: Just a few minutes of petting a pooch signals our brain to crank up production of the hormones serotonin and oxytocin — two calming chemicals that make us feel more relaxed and at peace.
