I know a lot of my American friends are sweltering with some awful heat waves which are occurring in their summer at the moment. Whilst the temperatures here in Australia seem to be hitting for the first time in some parts as a negative. Snow is abundance in the ski fields and here I sit rugged up like a 'Nanna' with socks on my feet, beanie on my head, two jumpers and a t-shirt with a rug over my lap and the cat wanting to crawl into my skin if she could.
The maximum temperature today is 4.c or (39 f). Whilst that may not seem that low for some, our winters here are generally mild and normally never go below maximum of 10.c. So in other words HELP I hate being cold!!
What is good news is that across Australia there have been significant droughts for quite some time in some areas. These droughts have occurred for many years not months. Yes YEARS!!.
As a fact some children have never seen rain!!. Can you believe that. Farmers across central and eastern Australia have been looking forward to the current rain for some time, but it hasn't served all communities equally. In NSW, Walgett and Lightning Ridge where we have mining for opals and gems have missed out on the best rain so far, but it's not all over yet. They haven't seen any rain for approx. 3 years. The best rain has been in some of the far western communities, with Bourke collecting 43 millimeters its wettest day since March last year. Whilst these towns may not mean much to you, the rain as you know keeps our country blossoming with food and products. Whilst Australia's land is diverse it is naturally made up of country that provides our goods and exports, such as Cotton, Wheat, and many many other products.
Australia is naturally a very dry land and I can only pray that we get more rain in the right areas otherwise there will be a downturn of the products that we provide across our Nations.
