#677 Human Touch...


A young boy is upset. He runs to his mother and buries his face in her dress, holding onto her legs. The mother bends down and picks him up. His cries soon subside.
A person meets a person they admire. They spend longer than usual shaking hands,
A woman is upset. A friend gives her a hug.. she then feels better.
A cat rubs its body along your leg wanting attention, you bend down and pick it up.
We all have a deep need to touch others and be touched by them. When others touch us (in ways we like), we feel both less alone and a warm connection.
Sometimes we want others to touch us, particularly when we want to be comforted or otherwise loved, reaching out to others to show we care about them.
All primates, from monkey to man, rely on social touch. Among non-human primates, grooming is a tool used to garner favours, earn social standing, and increase access to resources.
Gossip may have replaced parasite removal as a mechanism for defining and enhancing one's place in human society, such as our primate friends,  but the desire to be touched is carved so deeply within our primate heritage that it remained even as we shed our fur.
For an infant born prematurely, social touch can literally mean the difference between life and death, for the rest of us, being touched simply reminds us that we are loved. It is part of us being human. So when you have you given hugs of late?

#632 Seasons change with the scenery weaving time till Spring returns..


Some people love the summertime; others love the cold of the winter. Me? More than anything, I love the changing of the seasons. It really doesn’t matter from what season to another, I love the fact that there’s a certainty, a progress to the year that you can count on almost like nothing else in this world. Fall doesn’t care if you’re sad or depressed, it’s coming nonetheless. And winter won’t hold off until you’re feeling less anxious or manic. The seasons will change no matter what happens in our small lives or on the planet we live on. Seasons put my life into perspective. I gaze out onto the trees in my backyard and know not only that some of them are older than me, but will be here for many generations to come long after I’m gone. It kind of puts things into perspective for me.
Perspective is that we age really, really fast. In one blink of an eye, we’ve blown through another 5 years in our lives. Before you know it, you’re in your 20s, or 30s, or 40s. Decades seem to fly by if you’re not careful.
Some people live life as though it were a dress rehearsal. They believe that you shouldn’t act in the moment, because another moment will always be there. I thought that way once too, when I was younger. I let so many opportunities and possibilities pass me by because I was too shy or too self-conscious to grab a hold of the moment and make it mine. No longer. I pursue every opportunity that presents itself, and try and live as much in the moment as possible.
So no matter where you are living and what season is about to arrive in your time zone, don’t forget to grasp every moment of the day so you can look back in a couple of months and say “I did this.. and wow I had fun”.

#221 Last Ray of Light with Ricelli for Avenue Fashion Week



As I headed home from work tonight, the last day before a long weekend. I viewed a sight as the sun was just setting across the ocean. A similar sight I wanted to create for you tonight. The light was just flickering across the water trying hard to stream through the clouds, almost like fighting to punch through the clouds. 

I thought about the interplay between the last rays of sunlight and the shadow of the clouds. It reminded me that even when storms appear to threaten, ultimately the sun breaks through in the end. In some ways life is like that.

There are days when it feels like nothing you say or do is ever right. It is the breaking through the thick layers of issues. These issues could be family, your own personal issues, debts, or your health. Yet every once in a while, you do break through. These are the moments to cling too. I found a poem by someone unknown and wanted to share with you.

Though sometimes it is difficult to do, it's important to remember that even during the darkest days, somewhere there is a ray of light just waiting to break through...

Watch for that tiny ray and cling to it... 

Better yet - be that ray of light for someone who needs it
