#462 It's market day and it is time to meet your makers


Every Sunday is Market Day in our local town, Kianjavato. There is normally a procession of people heading to Market from the surrounding villages and along the way is the smell and sights of cinnamon and rice laid out to dry at the roadside. We head down early in the morning and the street is already bustling with people and lined with stalls towered with fruit and vegetables as well as clothes and a variety of odds, ends and hidden treasures. - See more at: http://www.madagascarpartnership.org/blog/entry/3837454/market-day-blog-by-rachael#sthash.Cldqf2Vf.dpuf
Every Sunday is market day in our town. There is normally a procession of people flocking to go to the market. You have to get their early otherwise it ends up being one cluster of a nuisance to find  a park. By the time I leave the house around 7am, the cars are all lined up and it ends up being a 2km walk to the stalls. That is why I have my trusty canine friend to walk with in the morning  as we head to the stalls. A good way to dodge the people as it is a huge dog ;)
As usual, the markets will be held in the lovely grounds near the beach. Items are a plenty with woodwork, jewellery, art, photography, soft furnishings, home baked breads and the fresh organic vegetables are to die for, not to mention lots of other bespoke handmade goodies!  I seriously get excited at market day each month, like I am excited about what is just around the corner for you all this month being The Shiny Shabby Event for the month of June.
here is a huge variety of neatly arranged fruit and veg on offer. We usually pick up a supply of vegetables to make salads for everybody back at camp and lucky for us the huge avocados are at their best just now. There are plenty of guavas and rambutans at the minute but each week also seems to bring a new, bizarre and mysterious fruit to try. In season just now is pocanelle also known as the ‘custard apple’ which gives some idea of its taste and texture and breadfruit, which is not very fruity at all but is always cooked and is more like a sweet potato. - See more at: http://www.madagascarpartnership.org/blog/entry/3837454/market-day-blog-by-rachael#sthash.Cldqf2Vf.dpuf
