There is
something inherently therapeutic about the sea. Just being near to it has a
powerful effect on me: The mind clears, the heart rate slows and, as we breathe
in the clean, salty air, time stands still, and all our worries seem to fade…
As early as I can remember in my childhood. The
beach/sea brings a smile to my face. Childhood is when the basic elements of
our identity are put into the place; who are we and where we belong to. The
sea was strongly present in my childhood...
If someone would ask me what is my favorite place
on earth I would immediately know the answer: My favourite
place is by the beach. A beach that is close to my heart, and where my memories
come back with smiles thinking about that beach. Memories of building
sandcastles, playing on the amusements in the park, laughing with family, or
soaking up the sun on the beach. Now as an adult the memories are more of the
physical kind where I either walk, jog or run along the sand at my beach and
remember all of the fun I had on that beach.
I just find the sea an excellent form of visual
meditation. It’s one of the few things that gets more interesting the longer
you stare at it. Waves jostle and hiss on the sand, the sound of large surf and
the smells that surround you. Unidentified birdcalls and the rare occurrence of
dolphins swimming in the sea.
The beach gives me a sense of belonging and I
belong with the sea…
