#745 There is beauty all around us if only we would see...


When I was eating dinner a few nights ago, I looked out the window near my kitchen and saw a colorful, dramatic sky as the sun set. I pulled out my iPhone and snapped a few pictures. 

But I noticed something. Other people didn’t seem to be paying attention to the spectacular light show going on in the sky outside. I stepped outside for a few more pictures. People continued to pass, looking at me but not bothering to look up at the sky to see what I was seeing. People were too focused on where they were going in a mad rush but didn’t see the beauty around them.  

Once I had the picture transferred to my MacBook, I showed it to some people at work the next day. They all thought it was beautiful. “Wow. I’ve never seen anything like that,” said one friend at work, another said, wow did you do that on photoshop? I said No, it was the sky last night. 

We all seem to be in a mad rush to be somewhere, to be with friends, to be part of something, to get to work, yet we do not see the wonders of nature, the poetry of beauty that surrounds us, the dictionary of words, the music that is around us every day.  

 Next time you walk out your front door, take 10 mins, and listen.  
Listen not at the hustle of cars and traffic but the bird song that choruses around you. 
Look up and remember it is a large world out there, and we need to take time for ourselves and admire what is around us...

#716 "Life is a child playing around your feet, a tool you hold firmly in your grip, a bench you sit down upon in the evening, in your garden."


Some days, it’s easy to smile. You wake up to the sounds of birds chirping, with the warm glow of the morning sun cradling your face. You take several deep, cleansing breaths standing beneath a perfectly cascading shower, just before drawing a smiley face on the steamed-up glass with your index finger... is this you? Or a dream of you...  
Not every day starts this way, Or sometimes never at all. Sometimes you wake up to chaos, in your head or in the world around you. You hit snags, and bumps, and roadblocks at every turn. You try too hard, or don’t try enough, and things fall apart, or things fall short. You struggle, you fight yourself and other people, and you find yourself wishing you could stop the world so you could get off for a while... We have all been there, and all suffered the ups and downs. 

When I am feeling stressed, I think of the little things to remember to smile. 
The laughter of children on a playground, the call of the birds in the morning looking for food, the smell of that hint of rain coming. It is sometimes hard to slow down and find the little things to remember what is important in your life. The chaos we feel may feel sometimes impossible to push away. You need to start slow.. 

Sometimes to refresh myself I go for a walk, along the beach or through the park. "Life is a child playing around your feet, a tool you hold firmly in your grip, a bench you sit down upon in the evening, in your garden."  

When things go wrong, you can fall down or look up. You can shut down or wake up, all over again, starting from right where you stand... or where you are sitting. It is finding your place in the calm when all else seems to be chaos.
