#898 When all is quiet, nature has a plan..


Nature has a plan to recover what is lost. I call this Restoration Ecology. 

We live in a world with a rapidly changing climate. One controversial approach to dealing with climate change is what is called ‘assisted migration’: the idea of establishing a species in a place where it does not presently occur and has not occurred in the recent past, but where the climate is predicted to be suitable for that species to grow in the future. Whether that species be plants, animals or other.  If the climate is currently changing faster than many plants and animals can move ie: migration, and many hospitable habitat patches are now isolated, then it may be necessary to actively move species to new habitats. 

With the dreadful drought that is present in Australia and the disastrous bush fires as per the videos below that seems to be surrounding much of the country and coast..there is already some good stories of where nature is trying to recover from what is lost. However, restoration activities should instead be viewed as complementary to, not a substitute for, efforts for the conservation of biodiversity.  
Ecological restoration is a rapidly growing field that represents a foundational change in our relationship to the natural world. We need to remember to plant more trees, embrace the natural gardens around us....and prepare ourselves that is just the start of change..

#832 Scrub up Outback Style...


One should never underestimate the power of a good bath. 

More than just a means to rid yourself of the dirt and grime of the day, bath time is where we leave our stress and worries behind and surrender, blissfully, to ourselves and that moment alone (not to mention the health benefits to assist with muscle pain and sleep problems). 

But taking the whole relaxation thing up a notch there are these exclusive nature baths that bring a whole new meaning to taking a bath. These baths have postcard-perfect views of gorgeous islands, towering rainforests and scenes that seem too good to be true.  So where are these places?? Australia of course.

#756 Not all those who wander are lost...Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends...


“Not all those who wander are lost...Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again"... Everyone is on a journey at some point in their lives. Life is a journey. The adventure of it all, the experience of being alive, the circumstances and everything else in between seconds, milliseconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years is a journey or a travel. Adventures, misadventures lead us to FATE.  

“What does travel mean to you?” A question we all get asked from time to time, if we’ve spent some time on the road, living location-independently, as a backpacker, digital nomad, long-term traveler, or whatever you like to call it. 

For me, the difficulties in finding an answer to this question begin already when it only comes to defining and delimiting travel: When does is start? When does it end? The longer we are on the road, the blurrier the answers seem to get. May the meaning of long-term travel be related to losing track of how to confine it? 

A vacation, a holiday can be clearly delimited: It could be, for example, a fortnight of relaxation in a nice resort. But travel? Isn’t there more to it than just being on the road? More than just spending a couple of days at a pool bar, more than visiting a foreign country or a new city?  

In a broader sense, travel is something each and every one of us does, all the time – both as individuals, and as humanity as a whole. Travel to me means searching for new and exciting places, exploring the unknown. For now, this type of travel is in my dreams.....
