Stumbling upon this destination today, the beautiful outdoor display was exactly what I have been looking for. It made me think about why do we decorate Christmas trees.
It turns out that outdoor Christmas light displays on houses evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. The tradition of lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe and other countries.
Small candles were attached to the tree branches with pins or melted wax. In addition, European Christians used to display a burning candle in the windows of their house that was visible from the outside.
For now, we decorate the Christmas Tree with all sorts of ornaments and light it up even the house, to celebrate the coming of the 25th December. For all of those that celebrate Christmas, I wish you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe Holiday. xx
