Anyone who has seen “Under the Tuscan Sun” (or if you are like me and have seen it so many times you could just about recite the entire script), will recognize the following:
Martini: Signora, between Austria and Italy, there is a section of the Alps called the Semmering. It is an impossibly steep, very high part of the mountains. They built a train track over these Alps to connect Vienna and Venice. They built these tracks even before there was a train in existence that could make the trip.
I have always been fascinated by that idea – and the person who had that dream to build it in the first place…
Whilst this picture is not the beautiful alps where this quote was mentioned, the thought that they built the train track because they knew some day, the train would come....
