#598 Warm Summer with Trixy...

There is no word more evocative than Summer... The word just rolls off your tongue. Summmeerrrr. :)

As a kid, I remember eating ice blocks on the heated side-paths with the neighborhood kids. We would breathe in the soupy air and laugh at each other’s colorful tongues. Poking them out to each other to see the fabulous colours of orange, red, blue, etc etc. That was the fun times. Just doing what we wanted to do, with not a care in the world.  Summer memories also include, running across the scorching sand, burning sand, leaving almost blisters underneath, as you cool them down in the water.

I love Summer. I love the warmth, but not the exaggerated heat. Summer means long days punctuated by lazy afternoons spent at the beach. Summer pop with saccharine messages about teenage love will be on replay. The season is all about good vibes, great company and spontaneous road trips.
With longer days and warmer nights, summer calls for beach barbeques, days by the pool and afternoon cocktails. But extended sun exposure and an increase in alcohol intake can rob the body of vitamin A- a critical antioxidant for cell renewal and turnover, which can cause dehydration. This can make our skin parched and dry, and leaving us to wake up to dull and lifeless skin. Yes that’s me sometimes.
When the temps shift into summer, and you think – but what about Spring? Summer comes in with a heat wave, a wave of feelings, memories, and adventures to be had. And then you step outside, and think – oh crap it’s Hot as you dive back into the air-conditioning.
The city is sweltering, and every step you take (every move you make), the sun is beating down on you. You all of a sudden are wishing for the AC and and no longer wish for the patio food and drinks, until the sun has gone down a bit.
So now what? How do you enjoy summer without wanting to dump a bucket of water on your head? - ie: Ice Bucket challenge really was a good idea last summer.

Below are four things you must do during Summer.
  1. Drink lots of water. Carry a bottle with you when you’re venturing outdoors for a long period of time. The sun is more likely to take a toll on you, and even walking for a few miles can be daunting on your body when the temps are higher.
  2. Have indoors nearby. Find ways to take a break from the heat and go indoors for a breath. If you’re wandering the city, hop into a store and browse for a beat, while your body takes a moment to recoup.
  3. Eat in the shade. Because we all want to enjoy the outdoor patio season, grab food in the shade or wait until the sun is a little lower. Eating by the water can help too because you’ll catch that extra breeze.
  4. Have a balance. Not all day needs to spent directly outside. Split up the day so you’re not drained half way through and not able to enjoy a full day of relaxation and fun with friends and family.
And of course, it’s summer. Enjoy it… cause fall is just round the corner... and then the other extreme happens.
