#405 As the Sun goes down with Apple May, Bauhaus Movement, Zenith, and Zerkalo

The age old question still prevails are you a Morning Person or a Evening Person? Do you set you alarm or you body clock wake you at 6 or 7 and bounce out of bed and say Hello I am going to go for a run, walk, swim or whatever your fancy. Or do you hide under the covers and snooze till midday if you could and stay awake for most of the night. I'm afraid that I am a morning person. I love the morning sun in winter, the smell of freshly cut grass in the morning and not to mention the coffee brewing which kicks me awake everytime.  Some of my SL friends are night owls and say why don't you stay up later which i try to do but somehow the yelling at me when i am quietly sleeping on the other end of Skype makes them laugh all the time. I love to feel the afternoon sun and the cool breezes by the water. I guess a morning person gives me more time to get out and about and explore.

There is no right or wrong to be a morning or night person. So for those that are trying to change their rhythms around to morning, this is what I suggest you do:
  • Stay consistent. Try to set the alarm clock for the same time every morning—including weekends. A constant wake up call may make it progressively easier to jump out of bed.
  • Start slowly. Pick a new wake up time and gradually work towards it. Want to wake up at 7 AM but stuck at 8? Start by setting the clock for 7:45, and move down in 15-minute increments until that new time goal is reached.
  • Skip the snooze. Disrupting sleep an hour or so before actually getting out of bed may disturb your REM cycle which helps stimulate brain regions lined to cognition. Don’t want to mess with that (or bug a roommate with multiple alarms!). Set one alarm for when it’s time to rise—and maybe another a few minutes later in case you snooze through.
  • Let in the light. Research shows a little light may be all we need to reset the body block A simple solution is to keep the blinds open during the night.
  • Eat breakfast. Sleepiness doesn't disappear just from drinking a cup of coffee but for me it helps. Having enough time for some green eggs and ham will also  provide energy.
  • Hit the gym. Those tired eyes may go away once a morning workout routine is in order. Start of slowly and before you know it you will feel more refreshed.
